- Child Oakford - 2nd Thursdays of the month - The Baker Arms
- Wimborne - Tuesday evenings - The Holme Bush, Corfe Mullen
- Wimborne - Guants House - 3rd Mondays of the month, 8pm-11pm £1.50 musicians, £3.50 audience. Open stage - book a spot in advance or on arrival
Session Etiquette.
The unwritten rules of pub sessions have in fact already been written by many a better person than myself so below you will find links to their pages. Some of these contain more words than an insurance policy so here is a condensed summary.
- Don't try to lead tunes that you cannot play competently, at a decent speed and as a set.
- Play tunes others will know and can join in with.
- Learn tunes at home not by trial and error at the session.
- If you have a loud instrument try not to sit too close to somebody with a quiet one.
- Make sure your instrument is in tune. If necessary check against other instruments in a break between tunes.
- Bodhran players and guitarists - Only accompany tunes you know. Not every tune needs accompaniment.
- While conversation between tunes is often encouraged, during playing it can be distracting so respect the other musicians and step out of the circle to chat.
